How to Create a Tap-to-Call Button

A tap-to-call button gives smartphone visitors a fast way to contact your business directly from your website. Instead of copying or remembering your phone number, they can tap the button and begin a call using the number you have assigned to it.

Before you begin: have the complete business phone number you want visitors to call, including the area code. A clear button label such as “Call Us” or “Call Now” also helps visitors understand what will happen when they tap it.
Step 1

Set the Button Link Type to Tap-to-call

Open the settings for the button you want to use. Find the Link Type setting and choose Tap-to-call. This tells your website that the button should be connected to a telephone number instead of another page, website address, or email action.

Step 2

Enter the Phone Number Visitors Should Call

After you select Tap-to-call, enter a valid telephone number in the Telephone Number field. Include the area code so the button is connected to the complete number your customers should use.

Tip: use the primary business number that you normally want website visitors to call. Double-check every digit before you finish.

Step 3

Check the Tap-to-Call Experience on a Phone

Once the button is connected to your telephone number, a visitor using a mobile device can tap the button to begin calling the number you entered.

Recommended final check: open the finished page on a smartphone and tap the button yourself. Confirm that the correct business number appears before you consider the update finished.

Quick Check Before You Finish

  • Your button uses the Tap-to-call Link Type.
  • The telephone number includes the correct area code.
  • The button label clearly tells visitors they can call you.
  • You tested the finished button from a smartphone.
