How to Exclude a Page From Website Search Results

If your Site Before Night website uses its built-in search tool, you can keep a specific page from appearing when visitors search your website. The page itself stays in place; you are simply changing whether the website's search feature includes it in its results.

Important: This tutorial is about the search tool used by visitors on your website. It is not a tutorial for removing a page from Google or another search engine.

Find the page you want to exclude

Start in your website editor. This option is useful only when the built-in Site Search feature is being used on your website.

  1. 1

Confirm website search is in use

Make sure your website uses the built-in search feature. If visitors do not have a website search tool to use, excluding a page from those results is unnecessary.

  2. 2

    Open your pages

From the website editor, open Pages and then Manage Pages.

  3. 3

    Edit the page

Find the page you want to keep out of website search results and select the pencil/edit icon beside that page.

Turn on “Exclude from Site Search”

Opening the page's settings gives you several controls for that individual page. Look for the option labeled Exclude from Site Search.

4

Enable the search exclusion

Turn on Exclude from Site Search. This tells the website's search tool not to include this page when a visitor performs a keyword search on your site.

Website search and website navigation are different

The Exclude from Site Search setting is separate from the control that determines whether a page appears in your website navigation. If your goal is only to remove a page from search results, you do not need to hide it from the menu as part of this step.

5

Save your page settings

Select Save after turning on the exclusion. Once saved, that page should no longer be included when visitors use the website's built-in search tool.

A simple way to verify the change

Use the search tool on your website and search for a distinctive word or phrase that appears on the excluded page. Confirm that the page no longer appears in the website search results.

Common questions

Does excluding a page from Site Search delete the page?

No. You are changing whether the website's search tool includes the page in its results. You are not deleting the page.

Does this automatically hide the page from the website menu?

No. Website navigation is controlled separately. A page can be excluded from the website search tool while still appearing in your navigation.

Is this the same as removing a page from Google?

No. Exclude from Site Search is specifically a setting for searches performed on your website. Google search and website indexing are separate topics.

What if I do not see “Exclude from Site Search”?

Website access and available settings can vary. If this option is not available in your editor, use our Website Technical Help resources rather than changing advanced settings on your own.
